Swingbed Program

Calhoun Memorial Hospital's Swing Bed Program is a healthcare option that provides skilled care for those patients who no longer require acute care hospitalization, but are still in need of skilled services for a short period of time. Patients in the Swing Bed Program are monitored and assisted by the Calhoun Memorial Hospital nursing staff and checked in upon weekly by their supervising Physician to monitor progress and modify care requirements.
Benefits of Swing Care Placements
Swing Bed provides an avenue for patients to recover their strength, endurance, and function prior to their discharge home. It is where patients go when they no longer need acute care but are not quite well enough to return to the demands of independent living. They may be recovering from major surgery, an accident, or a stroke. They may need nutritional therapy, physical or occupational therapy or pain management. They may have wounds that need special care. For these patients, Swing Bed offers short-term restorative care, a chance to heal and regain strength close to home, close to loved ones. It is a special place, with a whole team of caring professionals working together to help each patient get home faster and stronger.
What is the Swing Bed Program?
The Swing Bed Program allows your physician to "swing" your level of care from acute medical care to skilled rehabilitation.
What programs do you offer?
A full range of services is offered on an inpatient basis. Therapies include, rehabilitation after a stroke, hip or knee replacement surgery, IV medication therapy and strength training after a prolonged hospitalization. This program is complimented by an activities program.
*As a patient from another hospital, you may still receive rehabilitation at Calhoun Memorial Hospital.
How long will I need to stay in the program?
You may remain in the program for as long as you have skilled therapeutic goals that need to be met. Once these goals have been reached, you will be discharged from the program.
Who pays for this program?
The Swing Bed Program is often covered by Medicare and Medicaid, as well as many private insurance plans.

HACC implements Electronic Health Records
After months of preparation and planning, Calhoun Memorial Hospital is "going live" with Electronic Medical Records through cooperation and EMR provider Razor Insights. Beginning July 1, the clinical staff at CMH will begin utilizing the first of a multi-phased electronic medical records.
